Plaza Trombone
The Plaza Model from the BAC Handcraft Series represents the pinnacle of large bore orchestral design, delivering the depth, power, and refinement expected of a modern symphonic instrument. Crafted by Best American Craftsman, the Plaza embodies the classic American trombone sound while integrating contemporary performance features for today’s demanding players.
At the center of the Plaza’s voice is an 8.5-inch one-piece lightweight yellow brass bell, designed to produce a broad, dark tonal spectrum with effortless projection. The sound carries with authority across any ensemble, maintaining clarity and core while offering a wide palette of tonal color at both soft and powerful dynamics.
The .547 large bore yellow brass slide, paired with a dual-radius crook, provides a smooth, balanced feel with exceptional stability. This design supports a full, resonant airflow, allowing for both expansive phrasing and precise articulation—ideal for orchestral performance where both power and nuance are required.
A specially selected BAC leadpipe, chosen in collaboration with leading orchestral trombonists, offers a clear, open, and centered sound. Its design allows for broad flexibility without sacrificing tonal focus, giving players the confidence to shape phrases freely while maintaining a strong core throughout the instrument’s range.
Equipped with a Meinlschmidt open flow valve in an open wrap configuration at .562 bore, the Plaza ensures smooth, unrestricted airflow through the valve section. This enhances response and consistency, particularly in the lower register, while preserving the instrument’s natural resonance.
The Plaza Model is built for the modern orchestral musician—combining power, clarity, and flexibility into a single, cohesive instrument. It is a true expression of the American symphonic tradition, designed for players who demand both presence and refinement on the concert stage.
